This expansion is all about three new bosses (chosen) and making you hate them.

Don't get me wrong there is a lot of new content, but none of it extends the original ending of the game and it becomes bloated at various points in the game (more on this later). This expansion works more like a supercharged DLC than a true expansion. Before that, the threat of the Chosen and the cycling of your soldiers due to weariness makes up for whatever extra bonuses you have.Let me say first, know what you're buying. So honestly, I think it's only easier at the very end, when the new toys of the expansion have really had time to add up. The final mission will be trivial for you, but the Chosen Strongholds are still challenging (especially the first one). With WotC, it's actually relatively flat (barring the T2 gear drop) until you slay your first Chosen, at which point it starts to drop like crazy. The difficulty curve in the game is a gentle downward slope with a significant drop at Magnetic Weapons and Plated Armor, and a small spike back up for the final mission. But end-game in Vanilla is pretty easy too. Now, once you get to the end of the game, have slain the Chosen, and taught each of your soldiers most or all of their abilities, then yes, things do get a lot easier. Which can lead to compounding problems if they're not up to the job. And as your tired and wounded soldiers rest, you have to send in backup soldiers to make up for that. If absolutely nothing else, they'll almost always score a hit on one of your soldiers, forcing them to spend time in the infirmary. Your soldiers may have more potential, but they'll grow slower in practice.įurthermore, the Chosen showing up to mess with you can really cause problems. In Vanilla, I'd almost always have at least a couple of max rank soldiers before getting my Tier 3 weapons. All the while, your soldiers are constantly rotating in and out of battle due to fatigue.

However, you really only get so many of those Ability Points to spread around. Yes, Ability Points do turn your soldiers into gods among men. To prevent myself from just being another noisy voice, let me explain why. In my opinion, the difficulty is actually harder. So what do I do here, play vanilla first and then play wotc? I do want the best and most complete experience and the expansion seemingly completely changes the game engine-wise (performance improved etc) and gameplay-wise (so many new and cool features) but ppl say it becomes too easy to play.Įdit: I want to note that I already have Xcom experience from the first game so I know how an Xcom game works.

#Xcom 2 wotc update

your soldiers are all way more powerfull and updated but the base game didnt update with them which makes the game a lot easier compared to vanilla doing basically the same content but with way more power) after adding the expansion. The new expansion wotc seems really awesome and cool to play but I keep reading about messed up power curves (i.e. I want to start playing Xcom 2 but the more I read in this forum the more I doubt which version I should play. And dont necro like the last idiot in here in 2019. PLEASE NOTE: I asked this almost 2 years ago, dont post.
